You hear this jargon all over the net. SEO, Search Engine Optimization, We can place you website number one in the search engines. Let’s make this very clear…the only ones that can make your website show up in the number one spot in the search engines are the Search Engines Companies themselves. To back this up – Google, the number one search engine, spells it out pretty clearly and in big bold letters “No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google” . It goes on to say “Beware of SEO’s that claim to guarantee rankings”. Duh! I guess all these companies that are trying to sell you SEO and are telling you they can get you number one ranking, did not read the Google webmaster guidelines.
We have been designing and developing custom website for over 10 years now and have had great results with Search Engine Placement just by following the guidelines that Google lays out for all to read. We will never guarantee any type of site ranking or placement — that would be suicide! All we can tell you is that over the years, our clients have been happy with their placement and rankings within the search engines.
Designing you website to meet Google’s guidelines is not as easy a task to do (as one may think) as there are many elements that have to work in unison with each other. Each part of your site from page name, page title, key words, site description, links, images, load time and content…(etc) have to work together in order to obtain good results with search engines. It also depends on what business sector you are in, the amount of competitive companies that are on the web, as well as where you are located. (Location plays a big role on the generic local searches).
We had a client that decided to go in a different direction with their SEO and hired a company that promised them great results — which they did just that! It got them to the first page of the search engines – they paid dearly (tons of money) to get that result. Then, like overnight, one day they disappeared from the radar screen. Could not find them anywhere within the search engines and their page ranking went from a 5 to 0. It appeared that the sly company that promised them everything, including the sun and the moon, did something against the guidelines. Well…Google de-ranked them and all that money they spent was flushed down the toilet. It took use over 6 months just to get them back on the radar screen. The revenue they lost was devastating.
So my advice to you would be to get their guarantee in writing along with how long they will keep you on the first page, under what keywords they will guarantee that placement… and if they don’t produce, you want your money back IN FULL ! Be cautious, sometimes, they will guarantee you top spot for your keyword – but it could be the keyword phrase, “pink purple polka dotted pigs in Timbucktoo Michigan”.
Don’t get me wrong…. There ARE some extremely good SEO companies out there that will give you great ranking results but beware there is a cost involved and every company has different pricing structures. So go to their website, look at their portfolio, read their testimonials and then make some calls to their clients and ask them how they rank.
I hope this will help you in looking for the right SEO company to help put your website on the radar screen. Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
