Start Conversating…

Is that a typo? Start doing what?

I’ll say it again.  Start conversating! I know, sound’s like I’m being silly or trying to be cute! BUT, for those of you that know me, know that I use that phrase quite frequently. We all know there’s no such word as “conversating”, but the meaning behind what I’m saying IS serious business.

Using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other forms of Social Media, the idea is to build relationships. The only way to do that is to engage in conversations with others. One sided conversations don’t work too well.

Have you ever posted something you thought was out of this world on Facebook or Twitter — and noone responded? What did you feel like?  Dejected? Disappointed? Angry? Do you find that you ask yourself, what did I do wrong or why didn’t anyone respond?

If you answered yes to any of those…then look at your “conversating style”. If all you ever do is post, but don’t interact with other’s posts – maybe that’s the reason.  You need to spread the love in order to get it in return. You need to be less about yourself, and more about others on Social Media.

This could spark into a whole new topic…so I’ll try to stay focused.

In order for the Social Media networks to work in your behalf – will take effort and time on your part. Here’s a short list I’ve learned which may help you along the way…

  1. You MUST interact with others
  2. You must NOT monopolize the conversation
  3. Keep Business posts on your business page – but don’t always try to sell – give good useful information
  4. Keep your personal posts on your personal profile
  5. AND…remember, it’s not all about you!

If you keep those 5 things in mind you may be surprised with the level of interaction you get.
