Using Social Media Networks as my Blog…NOT!

I hear and see so many businesses trying to use FaceBook notes in order to post their blog articles.  This can be a big mistake.

Let’s explore why you should have a blog (not within your social medial accounts) in order to post your thoughts…
  • Control.

    • If you type something that FaceBook disagrees with, you may fall under their censorship rules and your post could be deleted.
    • FaceBook is constantly upgrading and changing things. If FaceBook decided to get rid of the Notes feature tomorrow, everything you wrote would be lost.

  • Ability to Archive.
Using a blog gives you the ability to archive your posts for future references. The articles are organized as they are archived, instead of just posting them chronologically. The archives then become your library of information.

  • Readability.
Only friends can read your notes on FaceBook. If you are truly wanting to make an impact with what you have to say, you need to have it open for all to read. Also, as new social media network venues pop up, you may find it difficult to post your archived articles to them.

  • SERPs & SEO
Posting articles from your blog to social networks provides back links to your blog and website, which in turn helps you to obtain a higher page ranking with search engines.

Just remember all your blog posts must be relevant to your website for it to work for you with all search engines.

Bottom Line: Don’t let the social networks take credit on what you write about.

  • Good words of wisdom.I noticed that Facebook wants to post very arbitrary items from a blog, but not from a website. One blogger had my comments on Facebook instead of own post copy from his blog. Also, Facebook will look on your blog and get pictures. That is frightening!

Hi Carol…again, thanks for your comment on our blog, we appreciate ALL feedback!
When you post a blog story on Facebook, you the owner of the blog – has control over what is seen, and what is not seen in the exerpt text that shows up. Facebook does not arbitrarily pull out what they want to use. Same with photos. When posting a link or a blog story, you (the poster) will always be given the choice to include a photo or not. The photos will be determined by the blog and article itself. Facebook pulls whatever photo is associated with the blog article – but the person posting the blog article or link to a website is in control of the photo that is seen.
